Radius 1 & 2 are the brain child of artist / filmmaker Ibrahim Quraishi with VR and interactive concept developed by the cyber philosopher and technology researcher Stanislaw Liguzinski. The footage was taken on a home-made drone, while traveling by car from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman and attempting to enter the war zone of Yemen. On the way through this tranquil landscape of the southern Arabian Gulf, the artist was met by a massive military industrial complex. Forbidden to enter or even cross the blocked zone, Radius 1&2 was developed by using cyber technology to understand the dimensions of war and peace in the Arabian Gulf. 

As human’s we've always been prone to subjecting the space around us to our own will. All visual technologies we've created - beginning with cave paintings, architectural designs, microscopy or cinema and ending with drones were molded according to our needs, capabilities and pleasure. Starting from narrative 2- dimensional projections inscribed on the walls of Lascaux, through lenses and algorithms in digital image-making, we've created codes that compress the world around us, push it through machines and decompress as if ours was the only gaze involved. Between the lens, motherboards, chips, cables and rotors of the drone our fantasy created cockpits (even if they were rationalized as remote desks somewhere in US military bases), eradicating the idea of intermediary machine that sees the space in its own optical-digital way. But what if, in the spark of glitchy recognition, a drone would break out of its behavioral pattern and started considering, analyzing, interpreting and finally - unloading its sense of space and reality on us?
